According to the Institute of Medicine, more than 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain.

Are you one of them?

At a cost of around $600 billion a year in both lost productivity and medical treatments, unresolved pain has become an epidemic, spurring a rapid growth in quick-fix and often unreliable pain treatment centers around the country.

In fact, a study by the Institute of Medicine concluded that chronic pain is not optimally managed in the U.S.! Rather, its treatment will require a broad overhaul of how both the public and policy makers view the condition.

“We see that for many patients chronic pain becomes a disease in its own right,” Institute of Medicine committee chair Phillip Pizzo, MD, of Stanford University School of Medicine, has remarked. “We need to address this in a more comprehensive and interdisciplinary way and include prevention as a very important goal.”

But what’s the solution? The truth is that the modern way of life is, for most of us, simply not conducive to optimal physical, emotional, and spiritual health. And it’s our bodies that pay the price! Add in a traumatic injury and, without intervention, acute pain may become chronic.

An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure!

Chiropractic care is the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of problems of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the general health of an individual. The techniques utilized involve manual therapy, which includes the manipulation or adjustment of the spine, joints, and soft tissues. Chiropractic care overlaps with other manual-therapy professions, including massage therapy, osteopathy, and physical therapy.

Its benefits include:

Relief of Low Back Pain and Neck Pain

In a study published in the British Medical Journal in 2003, 183 patients with neck pain were randomly allocated to various treatment modalities during a 52-week study.

The results showed that chiropractic adjustments resulted in faster recovery than physiotherapy and general practitioner care combined! Moreover, total costs of the chiropractic-treated patients were about one-third of the costs associated with other treatments.

Correction of Frozen Shoulder

Recently, a clinical trial showed the significant improvement patients suffering from frozen shoulder experienced after chiropractic care: of the 50 patients, 16 resolved completely; 25 showed 75 – 90% improvement; eight showed 50 – 75% improvement.

Improvement of Athletic Performance

It’s no accident that over half of all NFL teams have a chiropractor on staff, with Michael Phelps, Joe Montana, and Jerry Rice all touting its benefits.
